“Dr. Shahid Rasul Passes Away — Celebrating a Legacy of Excellence in Medicine”

On November 14, 2025, Pakistan lost one of its most dedicated and visionary physicians: Dr. Shahid Rasul, Executive Director of the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), passed away at the age of 59 after suffering a heart attack. A Life of Service and Innovation Dr. Rasul’s journey in medicine was marked by both compassion and innovation. After completing his education at Dow Medical College, he joined JPMC as a medical officer, eventually specializing in general surgery. Over the years, he climbed the ranks with distinction  combining clinical excellence with a deep commitment to medical education and public health. In a significant achievement, he helped JPMC launch a robotic surgery program, making it one of the first public hospitals in Pakistan to offer such advanced surgical care. His leadership didn’t stop at local impact: Dr. Rasul also served as Pakistan’s international adviser to the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, a testament to the respect and esteem he held in global medical circles. The Legacy He Leaves Behind Dedication to Public Health: Under his guidance, JPMC expanded its mission, touching the lives of countless patients, especially those who rely on public-sector healthcare. His commitment to accessible care was deeply felt across Sindh and beyond. Mentorship & Education: Colleagues remember him as not just a capable surgeon, but a teacher and mentor someone who uplifted others, nurtured young talent, and built bridges between clinical service and academic medicine. Legacy of Leadership: Civic leaders, including Sindh’s Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, praised him as “one of the country’s finest surgeons.” Meanwhile, his passing was called a “great loss” to the medical community by many. A Sudden Farewell Dr. Rasul’s death came as a shock. According to multiple reports, he suffered a massive heart attack and was rushed to a hospital, but could not be saved. The unexpected nature of his passing only highlights the fragility of life  especially for those who dedicate themselves to saving others. His funeral prayers were held on November 15, 2025, at the JPMC Jamia Masjid, following the Zuhr prayer. He is survived by his wife and two sons. Remembering the Man Behind the Title Beyond his institutional roles and surgical achievements, Dr. Rasul was known for his humanity — his kindness, his humility, and his sincere desire to serve. Sindh’s Health Minister, Dr. Azra Pechuho, noted that his service to public health, medical education, and patient care left a lasting imprint that would “guide us for years to come.” His leadership style was marked by both professional rigor and moral warmth. He never lost sight of the patients he served, or the young doctors he mentored. That blend of technical mastery and compassionate care made him more than just a surgeon — he was a healer, a teacher, and a true public servant.
